In Exodus 2 and 3 Moses was struck with his feelings of inadequacy. God called him to be His man to rescue His people from Israel, and he was struck with emotions of fear, inadequacy and hesitancy. Moses even begged God to give the assignment to someone else. Have you ever felt overwhelmed by feelings of inadequacy? Well, you are not alone. God helped Moses work through his inadequacies by reminding Moses of His presence, by not rejecting Moses questions, and by reminding Moses of both His Divinity and His intimacy.
- When you’re facing feelings of inadequacy, be reminded that God is with you.
- When you’re facing feelings of inadequacy, don’t be afraid to ask God all of your questions.
- When you’re facing feelings of inadequacy, be reminded of God’s divinity.
- When you’re facing feelings of inadequacy, be reminded of God’s intimacy.
When you’re facing feelings of inadequacy, be reminded that God is with you. When you were a little child did you ever get scared of the dark? It is natural to fear the dark when we are little. Sometimes in life we fear the unknown, the magnitude of the problem and we can start to feel helpless and overwhelmed. Knowing God is with us in the dark and that he is the One who is greater than the dark and will guide us through the dark gives us the peace and courage necessary to keep putting one step in front of the other. His presence is a powerful means of peace. This is what God gave Moses as he faced the Egyptians, and this is what God gives us, too.
When you’re facing feelings of inadequacy, don’t be afraid to ask God all your questions. Moses had many worries, concerns, and questions. Never once did God rebuke Moses in this conversation. Id Moses could only see in advance the powerful way in which God would free and provide for His people, Moses wouldn’t have asked so many doubt-filled questions. God still did not rebuke him but met him where he was at. We should be encouraged to not stoically march forward when we’re overwhelmed but present our questions to God with childlike faith and confidence in His total control over our present, past, and future.
When you’re facing feelings of inadequacy, be reminded of God’s divinity. God uses the Name of “I AM WHO I AM” which conveys His infinite greatness and self-existence. God is self-sufficient and without any need to report to or depend on anyone. He alone is God. Pharaoh paled infinitely smaller in comparison to God. When you’re facing feeling overwhelmed by inadequacy, just place your problem beside your God, and it—too—will pale in comparison.
When you’re facing feelings of inadequacy, be reminded of God’s intimacy. Even though God is so great and awesome, He uses the Name “Lord” here which would eventually be used to refer to Jesus, the One who spanned time and space to draw near to us in His incarnation to save us. He did this so that we could be rescued, redeemed, restored, and eventually returned to our rightful relationship of acceptance and intimacy with God that Adam and Eve initially enjoyed in the garden of Eden before the Fall. When you feel overwhelmed pray your way into these promises that will remove our feelings of inadequacy.
How to Pray:
- Praise Him that He is with you.
- Present your questions in prayer and express your trust in Him to answer Your questions in His way in His timing.
- Praise Him for the fact that he is God and He is greater than the problem.
- Praise Him that He loves you and is near to You.
