Devotional: Living In Resurrection Power
Ephesians 1: 19-20 (ESV), “and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,”
This passage is a portion of the introductory prayer Paul prays for the believing church in Ephesus. He prays not merely that they would have a head-knowledge-understanding of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead but an experiential understanding of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
This prayer begs the following questions of us:
-How does the resurrection change my life?
-How do I allow the resurrection to impact my life right now?
-The fact that Jesus bore my sins to the cross, paid the price, died bodily, rose again bodily defeating the grave, sin and death for me–what difference has this made in my life?
-As an individual who has truly been raised to new salvific life in, with, and through Christ’s resurrection how can I personally cherish and publicly share the immeasurable greatness of it with others?
The resurrection power of Jesus imbued to believers who recieve His forgiveness and grace by faith in accordance with Romans 10:9-10 [Romans 10:9-10, ESV, “because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”] is completely His work toward us. We do nothing to earn, incur, or deserve this. It’s His work toward us, a gift. Notice how many times in this passage Paul highlights for the believers that this act is of God toward His people:
Ephesians 1: 19-20 (ESV), “and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,”
Five times Paul lifts up Jesus as the great Accomplisher of the resurrection power which is gifted to believers in Him for salvation.
Maybe you are in the midst of a heavy season. You’re juggling big decisions, financial pressures, future questions, relational strains, maybe it’s just a multifaceted heaviness and you can’t really put your finger on the reason for it, but you know it’s there. Please allow the powerful resurrection reality wash over your heart and mind and refresh you this day and each day, especially in this resurrection season.
Believers Takeaways:
-Believers rehearse the promises of God with the aide of prayer, the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, the encouragement and fellowship of fellow believers, and the moment-by-moment practices of worship.
-The historical, bodily resurrection verifies the hope of our future resurrection.
-We have resurrection power moment-by-moment from this point until we see Jesus someday: Power to grow in Christ-likeness, power to pray, power to serve, power to show up in the lives of our church family, power to surrender, power to defeat sin, power to witness to lost people.
The most powerful Person in the universe is Jesus, the One who made it.
The most powerful result of the Fall is death.
The most powerful act in human history in the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.
The believer in Jesus is a recipient of this very same and specific power, resurrection power.
With Paul, it is my echoed prayer that we may know it, pursue it, long for a truly, daily transformative experience of it.
God bless you.
